Introducing: Solo Travels Series, 2024
A re-introduction to my solo travels series for the new year!
Now that I’ve taken a few solo trips, I want to reintroduce this series with a bit of a better format. So welcome to the updated Solo Travels series for 2024!
Background for this series
I think it’s safe to say that I’ve caught the “travel bug.” I’m hoping to travel as much as I can this year.
My love of travel started early, which I’ll probably share more about some day. But my renewed love of travel started within the last year, when I realized that for quite a while, I haven’t really been enjoying my life. So, traveling is part of my overall effort to try to enjoy at least some of my twenties.
I’m also considering moving out of Nebraska, so I’m trying to get a feel for where I may want to move to through some of these travels.
I also hope to grow. I don’t believe travel is 100% necessary for growth, but I do think it’s helping me to rebuild trust in myself by following through on plans (it’s tougher to back out at the last minute when flights are expensive!) and taking care of myself.
I’d wanted to take solo trips for many years before I finally went to Chicago by myself last fall, so for each trip I take, I plan to share things that may be helpful to others who are traveling or are curious about traveling more!
I’ll try to make these as skim-able as possible!
What to expect from this series
Originally, I planned on putting together an overall trip cost with the cost for each item, but I’ve decided not to do that. This is mostly because I plan to write these posts on my flights home, where I won’t be paying for WiFi to pull up my credit card statements for the cost of each item. And at the end of the day, prices of things fluctuate anyway, so an exact dollar amount of my trip may not be that helpful.
What I will do is include a range of different budget options in each category, as I think that would be more helpful anyway! However, if you have any questions about specific items, feel free to ask! I can always look up what I spent on each item once I’m back to WiFi if someone is curious.
For each trip, I plan to share about activities, accommodations, transportation, and food. Here’s a bit more about what I’ll share for each of these categories:
Activities: I’ll share what activities I did, how much time to budget for them, ticket prices, and short reviews.
Accommodations: I’ll share options for places to stay in different budget ranges, as well as a short review of where I stayed.
Transportation: I’ll share about navigating transportation.
Food: I’ll share where to find cheaper foods and a range of options.
Other: I may also share other things to consider for the destination as it applies!
Then, outside of these posts, I’ll write separate posts on lessons I’ve learned, things to consider, and tips on things like budgeting and packing. (These will be less scheduled — I plan to write the initial posts on my way home and then get to these longer posts as I can between trips!)
Today’s Tip: Overall Travel Budgeting
In that spirit, I wanted to include more on this post than just an re-introduction to this series. So today, I’ll share some overall budgeting tips for traveling.
I’m not going to tell you how to spend your money or any formulas on how much you should be spending or anything like that – everyone handles money in different ways, and whatever works for you is great. For example, my trip budgets usually don’t include food - I budget my monthly groceries and my food while traveling comes out of that budget as well, unless I choose to eat some place fancier or more expensive. But that might not work best for you! So these aren’t the types of tips I’ll share.
This is just an overview of what to budget for or to expect during travels —

Look for my post about my recent trip to Los Angeles in the next few days!
